The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry is one of the premier medical institutions in the country. The college has been consistently ranked
as one of the best five in the country for it's education. It has also been declared as an Institution of National Importance a couple of
years back.JIPMER's annual inter college students' fest (Spandan) is now in it's 26th year. It has progressed tremendously ever since it's inception, and Spandan 2011 promises to be the best and biggest ever. Every year, around 60 colleges participate in the various events, comprising
almost 2000 participants, making it the largest medical college fest in South India.A number of cultural, literary and sports events are held as part of the fest, and the cultural and literary competitions are open for participation for all colleges.The major cultural events are Indian and Western music; Indian, Western and Theme Dances, and Fashion show.

The schedule for these events are as follows:

30th August - Indian Music
31st August - Choreography
1st September - Fashion show (followed by a DJ night)
2nd September - Professional music show by Benny Dayal
3rd September - Western music (along with performances by two semi-professional rock bands from Chennai)

All these events will begin at 8 pm at JIPMER's open air auditorium (Lister square). Entry is free for all registered participants of the fest, while outsiders (Pondicherry locals and tourists) can get entry tickets on the spot at nominal prices.Spandan is a well attended and beloved college fest for many students throughout this part of India. There is also a Professional music show on the 2nd of September by the famous singer, Benny Dayal. He has worked with some of the top music composers in the country, including A R Rahman, and has sung for many Hindi, Tamil and other South Indian movies.Apart from all the competitive events, there will be a number of informal games organised, and food stalls will be set up by leading outlets. These will be open throughout the day for all visitors of the fest.
