Puducherry Book Fair
Puducherry Book Fair is the major event of the Union Territory being conducted by the Government of Puducherry every year. This book fair originally conducted in the month of November, for 10 days in Romain Rolland Library, Puducherry. After that due to the active participation of book sellers/publishers in large numbers, the venue has been changed to marriage halls and other community halls.
During the year 2009, the book fair was conducted for 10 days from 29-12-2009 to 07-01-2010 at Anandha Thirumana Nilayam, Puducherry, in which famous publishers/sellers have participated and nearly Rs.15 Lakhs books has been sold and approximately 2 lakhs of peoples and students were benefited by the discounts offered by the Government and by the book sellers/publishers.
This year Department of Art and Culture, Government of Puducherry, is conducting the Book Fair from 15-10-2011 to 24-10-2011 at St. Antony’s Multipurpose Community Hall, Cuddalore Road, Puducherry. The inauguration of the book fair will be on 15-10-2011 at 10.30 A.M. The timings of the book fair will be from 02-00 P.M. to 09-00 P.M. on weekdays and from 11-00 A.M. to 09-00 P.M. on holidays. Government of India, Publication Division, Chennai, Sakitya Academy and other popular sellers are participating in this Book Fair. Buyers can get the discount starting from 10% to the maximum given by the book sellers/publishers. This year 50 book publishers/book sellers are participating in the fair and 76 stalls were put up for the fair.
In addition to book stalls, refreshment stall centre has also been arranged to the people visiting the Book Fair. Award for the best stall will be given to the participating book publishers/book sellers during the valedictory function which is going to be conducted on 24th of this month.
