A few kilometres from Southern Cairo, neighbouring the Saqqara (King Djozer, 2600 BC) pyramids site is Bubasteïon a promontory of limestone. It was totally ignored previously but was stumbled upon by mistake, and under the direction of Alain Zivie (research director of CNRS) the (MAFB) French Archeological Mission of Boubasteïon, who have been searching this site for over 20 years had a chance to discover: tombs dating essentially from New Empire (XVIII and XIX dynasties approx 1300 BC)
This tombs provided new elements that were essential in comprehending Egypt at this crucial period. They also provide uncommum decorations and have rewarded the archeologists with the discovery of exeptional "funeral treasures".
Pierre Veillat, a civil engineer "technician responsible for several archeological missions" intervened in Egypte in the year 1973 and is a member of the MAFB since 1998.
