Ayurvedic medicine or the “complete knowledge for long life” is deeply rooted in Indian cultureand often used to cure small diseases and uneasiness. This alternative medicine, which takes into account the human body and the human spirit, believes that any physical discomfort is directly linked to psychological troubles. As our physical health depends on our state of mind, a comprehensive wellbeing should be achieved. For thousands of years, this wisdom – which comes in very handy - has been passed on from one generation to another.
While the healing part remains a male domain, the women endorsed another important role: they are the keeper of the family’s wellbeing. Acknowledging the power of nutrition, they developed amazing cooking skills, using the healing properties of spices and plants for various reasons. Used for good health, according to ayurvedic principles, these skills were also a mighty weapon of seduction. Indian women were completely aware of their powers and jealously kept them secret, so they would not unveil their precious assets. Mothers would hand on their culinary secrets as well as their beauty treatments, initiating their daughters to the feminine world of seduction.
Centuries of experimentation helped creating a wide field of knowledge that we introduce here, thanks to Lourdes Tirouvanziam - Louis, who is sharing her familiy's recipes. Discover a broad range of them – cooking, beauty, health - based on simple and natural products, used for generations – at least in Pondicherry.
